Carter-Hale Landworks

About Carter-Hale Landworks

East Mountain earns its name in its own way, not with peaks but with red-clay hills rolling through the Piney Woods of Upshur County, where morning fog settles in the low places and the pines rise out of it like masts. Carter-Hale Landworks mows, trims and cleans up yards here, where plenty of lots are laid over slopes and curves rather than flat ground. Hilly land asks for patience: a mower held true on the grade, string trimming along the banks, edges cut where the yard drops toward the road. Early summer is when this ground shows off, the grass surging after spring rains and the fog lifting early. The first sun comes slanting through the pines onto a yard just set right, and the whole hillside seems to stand up straighter.
