Out toward Hamilton Pool Road the soil is a few inches of dirt over solid limestone, and any design that ignores that fact fails by its second summer. Clean Green Landscape Design starts with the ground itself — where water runs after an April storm, where the afternoon shade falls, which slope will hold a bed and which one wants stone instead. Plans come together around plants that belong here: Texas sage, blackfoot daisy, agarita, grasses that shrug at August, laid out with beds, borders, mulch and planting that make sense from the porch and from the curb both. A designed landscape isn't decoration; it is a set of decisions that keeps paying attention long after the truck has gone. Watching a new bed fill in over one Hill Country spring is the whole reason for drawing it carefully first.
