The Texas Irrigator

About The Texas Irrigator

North of Decatur the LBJ National Grasslands roll out in patches of prairie and post oak, and by July the ponds there have drawn down and everything not watered has gone the color of straw. The Texas Irrigator reads a lawn against that backdrop — locating and repairing sprinkler lines, swapping broken heads, resetting spray patterns that have drifted onto the driveway, tuning zones so water reaches roots instead of pavement. Mowing and edging round it out, cut high through the worst of the heat so the turf shades itself. In a county where rain arrives on its own terms, a well-set system is the difference between a yard that endures August and one that surrenders in it. Watching a zone throw an even arc at first light is a quiet kind of pride.
