West of town the Leon River winds through mesquite and pecan, and out toward Lake Proctor the ranch gates come about one every half mile. Hogan Landscaping works those places alongside the ones in town — mowing, edging, string trimming, brush and overgrowth cut back, and hauling off everything that comes out. October is the good month here: the heat breaks, the grass slows, and there is time to get properties cleaned up ahead of the first freeze. On acreage the distance between kept and unkept is dramatic, and it can close in a single afternoon. That turn is the reason to do the work at all.
