979 Lawncare

About 979 Lawncare

The 979 is a wide number to carry — it runs from the Brazos bottoms out to the last mailbox on a county road, and this crew works its share of it. Summer here does not let go until well after supper, so the mowers keep running into the long gold end of an August evening, when the heat finally lifts an inch off the pavement. St. Augustine comes back thick after a rain, and there is real satisfaction in bringing it down even, then walking the edge along a Texas Avenue driveway until the line is straight enough to sight down. Trimming takes the fence posts and the mailbox stands, and the blower sends every clipping back into the turf where it belongs. Wherever the phone rings in College Station, the trailer ramp comes down.
