Mowing Best

About Mowing Best

By six on a June morning the light comes flat across Frisco from the east and the Bermuda is still holding its dew. Mowing Best works those hours, when a deck cuts clean and the grass stands up behind the machine instead of laying over in the heat. The routes run the long blocks off Eldorado and down toward Stewart Creek, one yard after another, each one finished with a trimmed line along the walk and the drive blown bare. There is a plain satisfaction in a lawn that looks the same from the street as it does from the porch. Mowing, trimming, edging, blowing off — the same passes, week after week, all the way through the long green months.
