THE GRASS GUYS

About THE GRASS GUYS

Mid-morning in spring, the bougainvillea spills magenta over half the fences in Brownsville and the hibiscus opens like it has somewhere to be. THE GRASS GUYS move through the block in that color, trailer down, one on the mower, one on the trimmer, one working the edger along the drive. The list is the list: cut, trim, edge, blow, shape the hedges, clear the beds, take the cuttings with them. Working as a group means a yard goes from overgrown to finished in the time it takes the coffee to cool, and the next one is already waiting. A neighborhood cut on the same day has a look to it, a whole street pulled into agreement.
