Casie's Corner

About Casie's Corner

Saturday morning on the Bonham square starts slow: the courthouse throwing its long shadow across the storefronts, a few trucks angled in, somebody's radio going. Casie's Corner is usually already out by then, because Fannin County grass in June does not wait for anyone to finish coffee. Mowing, edging, trimming along fences and flower beds, then everything blown back off the sidewalk — the sequence rarely changes, and neither does the pleasure of the last pass. Town lots here are shaded by old trees and cut up by walks and driveways, which is exactly the kind of yard that rewards someone willing to slow down at the corners. By noon the heat has settled in, but the yards behind them look bright and squared, and that is a fine thing to leave in your mirror.
