About Happy Gardens of Austin

In Hyde Park the crape myrtles come on in July like somebody turned up the color, hot pink over porches a hundred years old and sidewalks that buckle where the roots went looking. Happy Gardens of Austin works those narrow lots in the late part of the day, when the shade from the bungalows finally reaches the strip of grass by the street. Mowing, edging around the tree rings, trimming out the fence corners, beds turned and weeded so the caladiums and the ferns have room to be seen. Small yards are their own discipline — nothing is hidden, so nothing gets skipped. Come dusk the lawn is level, the walk is swept, and the porch light finds a yard that looks glad about itself.
