About Proffitt's Lawn & Leisure LLC

Amarillo named its ballclub the Sod Poodles, after the prairie dogs that were tending this grassland long before anyone, and Proffitt's Lawn & Leisure works the same ground with a gentler touch. The idea is right there in the name: the lawn gets looked after so the people who own it can get on with the leisure. October is the sweet season for that, when the first blue norther has swept the dust from the air, the cottonwoods along the draws are turning the very yellow the city is named for, and a fresh-mown yard smells like summer's last word. Someone else has already run the edger down the driveway; all that is left is to carry out a lawn chair and watch the light stretch long across the plains. That is how a Panhandle Saturday is meant to go.
