1:11 Grass Keepers

About 1:11 Grass Keepers

Amarillo mornings arrive all at once — the sun clears the flat eastern rim of the Llano Estacado and the whole town turns gold before the first stoplight changes. That is when 1:11 Grass Keepers likes to be rolling, gates down, dew still holding the clippings to the blade. Lawn care on the high plains is a patient business: thin dry air, wind that starts up by ten, grass that has to be coaxed rather than commanded. They mow, edge and trim so a yard reads like one deliberate sweep instead of a chore checked off a list. By the time the heat stands up over the caprock, another block of Amarillo looks like somebody cared.
