Old & young, mowing

About Old & young, mowing

Two sets of hands, one mower, and a whole morning of Alvarado ahead. Old & young, mowing runs the way this work has always been handed down — one pair of hands showing the other how to hold the trimmer at an angle so the edge comes out level, how high to leave Bermuda in July, which way to blow a drive so the clippings end in the grass and not the street. By noon the shade has shrunk to nothing under the post oaks and the last yard on the list is cut, edged and swept. It is a plain trade done carefully, and the proof of it sits there in a straight line along every walk. Alvarado, and the towns close by.
