The Yard Guru

About The Yard Guru

By eight on an August evening the ridgelines around Winchester go blue, the cicadas take over, and a yard cut that afternoon holds its stripes in the low light like something combed. The Yard Guru works those long Tennessee weeks — mowing, trimming, edging, hauling off the clippings so nothing is left to yellow the turf. Late summer asks for patience: heat that will scorch a lawn cut too short, and rain that can put an inch on it overnight. The answer is showing up on schedule and reading the grass instead of the calendar. There is a real quiet pride in the last pass of the day, when the mower shuts off and the yard is suddenly, completely finished. Franklin County has a lot of good ground; it just likes to be kept.
