Vanleer sits in the folds of the Dickson County hills, where the roads follow the creeks and the oak-and-hickory ridges close in on either side. McEwen Excavation, LLC works the winter side of that country — plowing drives, lanes and lots, cutting through drifts on gravel approaches, and salting where a shaded stretch stays frozen past noon.
