A lot at six in the morning after a snow is its own small landscape: light poles, an unbroken white sheet, and a couple of hours before anybody pulls in. Rural King handles the snow-and-ice side of a Sweetwater winter morning — plowing and pushing lots open, shoveling the walks at the doors, salting entrances and the lanes where carts and trucks have to cross. Snow does not come to East Tennessee often, but when it does it lands on everybody's errand day at once. Clean pavement means feed still gets loaded, tailgates still drop, and the doors open on time. The work covers Sweetwater and the nearby stretch of Monroe County toward Philadelphia, Madisonville and Niota.
