Crossroads Sod Farm

About Crossroads Sod Farm

A sod field in January is a strange, lovely thing: acres of green laid flat as a tabletop, silvered with frost until the sun climbs high enough to take it. Crossroads Sod Farm knows that ground and knows what winter does to it, and turns the same equipment toward snow work when a storm crosses the Sweetwater valley — plowing drives and lots, shoveling walks, and laying salt ahead of a refreeze. Winter here is not long, but it is sudden; a Thursday in the fifties can hand you a Friday sheeted in ice. Clearing it properly means the mail runs, the shop opens, and nobody has to stand at the window guessing whether the drive will hold. Crossroads serves Sweetwater along with Philadelphia, Niota and up toward the Loudon County line.
