Arterra Landworks

About Arterra Landworks

Cold settles first in the gulf, where Big Soddy Creek runs black between hemlock and stone and the air comes out of the hollow long after the valley has warmed. Arterra Landworks works the winter side of that geography — plowing, opening drives and lots, and treating the ice that lingers in shaded bends around Soddy-Daisy. Snow here is an event rather than a habit, so when it comes the whole town rearranges around it and somebody has to open the way. The crew learns which slopes hold their glaze and which let go by ten, and works accordingly. By afternoon the pavement is dark and wet again, and that is exactly the point.
