The old airfield ground on the north edge of Smyrna lies flat enough that wind gets a running start, and open pavement out there freezes before anything else in Rutherford County. Tri-State Terrain works that kind of terrain — wide lots, long entrances, approaches that have to be open before first shift. Plowing, stacking snow where it won't block a lane, scraping the walks, laying salt ahead of the refreeze: it is a sequence, and doing it in the right order is most of the job. Winter storms in Middle Tennessee are short and sharp, so everything turns on being in position before the first flake. Come daylight the lot is clear, the painted lines are visible again, and nobody has to give it a thought.
