The second day of a storm is the one that tests a place — the roads plowed once already, the gravel drives up in Poor Valley and out toward Burem drifted back in overnight. Shane's Excavating Service takes those on with the blade down and the day laid out: driveways reopened, turnarounds widened, lots pushed back to their edges, walks cleared and slick spots treated. Snow stacked in the right place in January is snow that isn't in the way come February. There's a particular quiet up there once a drive is open and the truck shuts off.
