Ramer sits on the highway south of Selmer in a piece of McNairy County that goes quickly from pasture to hardwood to the cypress bottoms down toward Big Hill Pond. Southern Lawn & Landscape mows through that country — the wide roadside yards, the farmhouse lots with a hundred feet of frontage, the smaller places in town — with edging at the walks and drives and trimming along every fence and post. Grass here starts in March and does not quit until the first real frost, which makes consistency the whole discipline. Autumn adds the leaf work, once the oaks and sweetgums along the creek bottoms turn loose. A crisp edge at the end of a long gravel drive is a small announcement that somebody cares.
