New Johnsonville wakes to water light — Kentucky Lake spreads wide just west of town, and the first sun off it reaches the yards before it reaches the road. Cut by Paul mows in that early hour, when the fescue is still heavy with dew and the mower leaves a dark, even track behind it. From April the grass here runs hard through long humid summers, so the schedule holds week after week: cut, trim close to the fence posts, edge the walk, blow the drive clean. By late October the job shifts to leaves and one last low pass before frost settles on the river bottoms. The reward is simple and visible from the road — a yard that looks cared for, straight lines and a crisp border where lawn meets gravel.
