About Tony and Son’s

Between Murfreesboro and Smyrna the farm ground runs flat and open to the wind, and when a winter storm crosses it there is nothing standing in the way to slow the cold down. Tony and Son's works those mornings: plowing drives and lots, clearing walks by hand where a blade cannot reach, salting the spots that will refreeze once the light goes. It is early, unglamorous work, and it ends with a piece of this county functioning again — cars out, doors reachable, the day allowed to start on time. Snow is rare enough here that nobody is ready for it, which is exactly why somebody has to be. That somebody keeps a shovel in the truck and the route already in mind.
