About UnderGod Landscaping and Hauling

North of town, Clinch Mountain runs the horizon like a long dark wall, and in late October the wind comes down off it and empties the maples into every yard in Morristown at once. UnderGod Landscaping and Hauling meets that stretch of the calendar head-on: leaves gathered off the turf before they mat and sour it, the yard raked out, the final cut of the year taken low so the grass goes into the cold tidy. Through the growing months it is the ordinary rhythm — mowing, trimming, edging, keeping ahead of grass that never asks permission. And when a front slides down the valley and leaves the driveways of Hamblen County under snow or a skin of ice, the plow and the spreader go out, and the pavement comes back black under the streetlights. There is a plain pleasure in all of it: a way home that is open, a yard that is ready, and the mountain still standing there in the morning.
