The Tennessee line runs along the bottom edge of Memphis, and the neighborhoods on either side of it share weather, traffic, and the same slick morning whenever a winter storm crosses the Mid-South. County Line Lawn goes out for those mornings — plowing, clearing walks and doorways, treating driveways and lots so the shaded patches don't hold the ice. Snow that falls here rarely lasts more than a couple of days, which means the clearing happens fast or not at all. Getting a driveway open before the school buses run is what the morning is for. It is cold work done early, and the dark pavement behind the truck is its own reward.
