Come April, Highway 33 through Maynardville turns green from the valley floor upward, the ridgetops running a week or two behind the bottoms. GeoLawn is out as soon as the ground will hold a mower, with first cuts, edges re-cut, beds mulched and winter's litter cleared off the grass down at the courthouse end of town. Union County yards climb and fall, so the mowing pattern gets planned before it ever gets driven. Through summer it is a weekly cut with trimming and hedge work; by November it is leaves, cutbacks and one last tidy before the cold sets in. Watching a yard come back sharp after a long gray winter never really gets old.
