A short canal joins Fort Loudoun and Tellico, and boats slide through it while Lenoir City is still eating breakfast. M & M Mowing starts its days about then — mowing on a set rotation, edging, trimming out the corners, then clearing the cuttings off drives and walks. Come January the schedule flips: plows on the trucks, walkways shoveled down to the concrete, salt across the shaded pitch of a driveway that never dries. In a place where snow is rare, the mornings it does fall are the ones people remember all year. Doing right by both halves of the calendar is what keeps a route.
