About Sgt. Carter’s Mowing

Noon in the middle of a Macon County summer is not the easy stretch of the day, and the work does not stop for it. Sgt. Carter's Mowing keeps at the route through the heat, cutting yards around Lafayette, running the trimmer along fences and foundations, edging where grass has crept out over the pavement. Hillside lots, level town squares of grass, a wide church lawn out on a county road: each one gets gone over the same careful way. When the last pass is done the equipment goes up on the trailer and there is a minute to stand and look at what got finished. An even lawn under a hard white sky is a good thing to leave behind.
