Look west from Oak Ridge at the end of a summer day and the ridges stack up one behind another toward Oliver Springs, going blue and then purple as the Cumberlands take the last of the light. That is the good hour to finish a yard — the mow lines still fresh, the edge along the walk cut clean, the trimming done around every post and stone. Work out this way runs from the flat lots in town to the long sloping ones on the county roads, mowed on a schedule and cleaned up after each visit. When leaves come down the yards get cleared, and when a winter system rolls in off those same western hills the plow opens driveways and the walks get shoveled and salted. Same ground, same crew, whatever the sky is doing.
