Mr. Green Thumbs

About Mr. Green Thumbs

Up the hollows around La Follette the summers grow everything at once, grass to the knee, honeysuckle over the fence, all of it green and hungry. Mr. Green Thumbs meets that with mowers and trimmers, week after week, until the yards along Big Creek look kept rather than overtaken. Then the year turns, the hills go brown and bare, and the same trucks come back out with plows and salt for the drives and walkways. Winter is short and sharp in this valley, so a snow morning is all headlights and hurry. Two very different kinds of work, one town, and the same pleasure in how a finished place looks.
