Slater's Tractor Work

About Slater's Tractor Work

Late in the day out past the edge of Kingston, a tractor working an open field throws a long shadow across the stubble and the swallows come in behind it for the insects. Slater's Tractor Work handles the big, rough acreage most mowers cannot — fields, back lots, overgrown ground brought back down to something you can walk — along with regular lawn mowing, trimming and edging closer to the house. Roane County land does not come flat or tidy, so the machines and the passes get matched to whatever the ground actually is. When winter finally sends real weather down off the plateau, that same equipment pushes gravel drives open, clears a lane out to the road, and breaks up ice where a hollow keeps the sun out all day. It is unglamorous work and there is deep satisfaction in it: the field cut, the drive open, the place usable again.
