Mr. Green Thumb

About Mr. Green Thumb

Brush Creek once ran hidden beneath downtown Johnson City; now it runs open through Founders Park, and on a July evening that whole block smells like cut grass and creek water. Mr. Green Thumb keeps lawns for exactly that kind of summer — mowing week by week, trimming around fences and mailboxes and the awkward corner nobody else wants, edges cut clean along the sidewalk, walks blown off at the end. In this valley tall fescue races after a warm rain and then sulks in August heat, so the schedule bends to what the grass is actually doing rather than what the calendar says. Fall brings the long patient work of leaves, raked and hauled until the yard looks the way it did in May. The reward is small and it repeats: someone pulls into the drive, glances at the strip between sidewalk and street, and finds nothing left to fuss with.
