Gig Man

About Gig Man

Snow comes to Hopewell mostly at night, quiet over the pasture, and by the time it stops the whole community is waiting on morning. Gig Man works those hours — plowing driveways and lots, shoveling out steps and walks, salting the slick spots before first light finds them. There is a strange peace to a storm night out here: no traffic, one set of headlights, the blade throwing white into the dark. By sunrise the pavement is clear and the night's work is already invisible, which is exactly how it should look. Hopewell wakes up and goes about its business.
