Hollow Rock sits among the wooded ridges and creek bottoms of Carroll County, where West Tennessee winters stay mostly mild until, every so often, one turns hard. When snow and sleet do sweep across the county, Holston Valley Land and Forestry, a land and timber outfit, turns to snow removal, pushing open drives and lots that would otherwise sit sealed in white. Much of that work happens in the dark, headlights catching flakes against bare oaks and the empty stretch of highway through town. There is pride in laying the first tracks of a frozen morning and leaving a clear lane where there was none. Come sunrise, Hollow Rock can get on with its day.
