On Gallatin's north edge new streets keep getting drawn across ground that was pasture a season ago, and the young lawns out there have to be taught how to be lawns. That means mowing them on a rhythm from the first flush of spring growth, edging the fresh concrete so the line is set early, and trimming out the corners where sod meets fence. It means clearing the yard of leaves and debris when the year winds down and the wind comes across open lots with nothing to slow it. Sumner County soil will grow grass gladly if somebody is paying attention to it. Watching a raw yard turn into an even green one is the good part of the job.
