About Allen Co. Land Services

When a winter storm slides down over the Elk River valley, it usually arrives dressed as rain and hardens overnight into something else entirely. Allen Co. Land Services works those hours, clearing drives, lots and turnarounds along the Huntsville Highway and out past Camp Blount before daylight finds the county. Plowing, shoveling and ice treatment are unglamorous work, and they are exactly what lets a farm gate swing open and a shift start on time. There is a real satisfaction in an apron of pavement scraped down to black and steaming faintly in the morning sun. Lincoln County does not get many of these storms, which is precisely why the ones it gets have to be answered.
