The creek that named this place goes over the rim of Walden Ridge and drops toward the gorge below, and in a hard freeze it hangs there in ice. Falling Water Irrigation works the same ridge in the same weather, only up top where people live. Drives plowed and scraped, walkways and steps opened, ice broken and treated on the steep pitches that ridge roads are full of. Chattanooga can sit in nothing worse than rain six hundred feet down while this mountain is white to the treetops, and that gap is the whole reason for the work. By the time the ridge gets its morning sun, the ground underneath is already clear.
