Ed's Helping Hands

About Ed's Helping Hands

A shovel leaning by the porch light: that is how most of these nights begin. The storm passes over Fairfield Glade, the streets with their borrowed English names go soft and unfamiliar, and somewhere a car is still buried to the door handles. Ed's Helping Hands clears driveways, walkways, steps and mailbox aprons, and puts salt down where the shade holds ice well past noon. The scale of the work is small and the consequence is not: a path to the door, a way out to the highway, a neighbor who never had to ask twice. Snow on the plateau falls heavy and means to stay, and it gets moved anyway.
