About Davis Lawn Co.

Saturday morning out toward Spring Creek, the dew has not burned off yet and a mockingbird is running through its entire catalog from a power line. That is where a mowing day in East Ridge starts: decks set, edges walked, trimmer following the fence line, the drive and sidewalk blown clear so nothing gets tracked inside. Yards in this town sit small and close together, which means the line along a neighbor's property is the difference between finished and almost. Come September, when the heat finally loosens its grip, there is leaf cleanup and the fall work that carries a lawn into next spring. By noon the smell of cut grass belongs to the whole street, not just one house.
