About Backyard Reflections

A backyard in Collegedale in June is a room with the roof off — fireflies coming up out of the fescue, the heat finally letting go, somebody's porch light down the block. Backyard Reflections tends that room: mowing and edging, string-trimming the awkward corners, shaping hedges, mulching beds, hauling off the clippings and then the leaves when October fills the yard again. The pleasure of the work is in small decisions — where a bed line curves, how short to take the grass in August, which limb was making the whole hedge look tired. Get those right and the yard stops being a chore and starts being somewhere to sit.
