Burnette Stump Grinding

About Burnette Stump Grinding

East of Cleveland the Cherokee foothills go blue by four o'clock, and the yards below them keep their leftovers: a stump where a shade tree used to stand, ringed by grass no mower can reach. Burnette Stump Grinding is a tree service that finishes that story — the tree down, the limbs trimmed away, the stump chewed under the sod line until there's nothing left but a soft mound of chips to rake off. Bradley County ground is red clay and gravel, and it gives up an old oak root slowly, one pass at a time. There's a good moment near the end when the machine goes quiet and the yard is just yard again, level enough to seed, wide enough for the kids to cut across. Cleveland grows fast around its old shade, and someone has to make room without leaving a scar.
