About Appalachian Grind Co

Cold arrives in Cleveland from the east, sliding down out of the Cherokee National Forest and over Chilhowee before it ever reaches a driveway. Appalachian Grind Co meets it there — plowing, shoveling and treating ice on residential drives and business lots across Bradley County. Mountain weather is a moody neighbor; an inch of powder on the ridge can be a half inch of glass down in the valley, so the trucks go out ready for either one. There is a stubborn pleasure in the sound of a blade finding pavement on the first pass. Come daylight, the only proof of the night is a neat bank of white pushed clear of everywhere anyone walks.
