Lovelace Works

About Lovelace Works

January fog lifts out of the Hatchie bottoms and lies across the fields until midmorning, and when it settles onto cold roads nothing much moves. Lovelace Works gets ahead of that, plowing driveways and lots and cutting a path from the door out to wherever the truck is parked. Salt and sand go on the grades, the turnarounds, and the shaded strips that never see a minute of sun all day. The walk gets cleared by hand, edge to edge, so there is nothing to guess at underneath a fresh dusting. Then the fog thins, the cypress comes back out of the white, and the day is finally allowed to start.
