Snowscape

About Snowscape

On a January night in Sverdrup the snow does its real work in the dark, sliding across open fields and piling deep in the lee of every shelterbelt and farmhouse. Snowscape plows out this township, where a single windbreak can lay a drift taller than a fence across the lane. The job, whenever it comes, is to cut through it, push the snow well back so the next wind has somewhere to put it, and leave a driveway open from the garage to the road. The thermometer may sit below zero and the snow may squeak underfoot, but a cleared drive under a yard light is a fine thing to see. That is the landscape the name suggests, reshaped one pass at a time.
