February in Sturgis can turn in a single night: a chinook slides down off the Black Hills, the snow goes to water in the gutters, and Bear Butte still stands white on the northeast horizon. Nearly every yard in town keeps that mountain in view, and every yard gets measured against that kind of light. Greenscape works from the thaw forward — raking out the winter's wreckage in March, opening the soil, feeding it, then mowing steadily from May until the frost takes the color back. Midsummer is when the payoff shows, a lawn holding deep green under a sky that wide. Nothing complicated about it, only done on time.
