About Madison Lawn & Landscape

Out where Skunk Creek runs down to meet the Big Sioux, the west-side blocks come out of winter in stages — brown, then patchy, then all at once green. Madison Lawn & Landscape opens the season there with cleanups: rakes pulled through matted grass, winter grit swept off the driveways, beds cut back and reopened to the light. Through summer it is mowing and trimming on a steady rotation, edging along the drives, keeping the turf even where the sprinklers reach and where they do not. Landscape work fills the cooler ends of the calendar — mulch laid down, plantings set, a bed shaped so it reads as intentional from the street. South Dakota asks a great deal of a lawn between April and October, and the answer is simply being there when it is time.
