About 605 Yards

East of town the streets give out and the prairie takes over, and that is where a morning route starts: dew still gray on the grass, the Hills a blue line the other direction. 605 Yards mows, trims and edges yards in Rapid City and out through Rapid Valley, holding the lines straight even where the ground rolls. Summer here runs hot and fast — a week of heat, a night of rain, and the bluegrass comes back asking for a cut. The work is simple to name and hard to do well: an even height, a clean line where grass meets concrete, clippings blown off the walk before the truck pulls away. One area code covers this whole state, and a yard out on the east side gets the same attention as one down the block.
