About Midwest Construction & Development

Pierre carries the label of one of the country's smaller state capitals, and its newest streets are still climbing the hills above downtown, where subdivisions fill in a little at a time and the wind off the open plains has nothing to break it before it reaches a half-graded lot. Midwest Construction & Development builds those blocks through the warmer months and keeps the same equipment working through winter, trading blades and buckets for plows once the ground freezes and the season's first real snow needs pushing off streets still new enough that most people in town don't yet know their names. From up on that ground, the Capitol dome is visible across the valley on a clear day — a small fixed point for work that is otherwise still finding its shape. Making a half-built street passable for its first residents is a different kind of job than finishing an old, settled block — less about how a place already looks, more about simply clearing the way through. The edge of Pierre keeps filling itself in, street by street, and this crew is part of how that happens in winter too.
