Capitol Lake sits behind the Statehouse in Pierre, a five-acre pond fed by its own artesian well, and it's the one piece of open water in town that never quite freezes — the resident Canada geese stay put through the coldest months because of it. Boice's Plumbing & Lawn Irrigation spends the weeks before that first real freeze blowing the water out of underground sprinkler lines all over town, working ahead of the cold in a way the lake itself never has to. Once irrigation season is closed out, the same trucks start running driveways and walkways instead, clearing snow off ground those lines sit buried under all winter. Closing one season out clean and opening the next one just as clean is a handoff that only gets noticed when it's done wrong. The same crew handles both jobs here, one picking up right where the other leaves off each fall.
