Grass & Snow

About Grass & Snow

Some October morning Crow Peak wears its first white while the valley below is still brown and warm, and that is when the year up here shows both its faces at once. Grass & Snow is a lawn care outfit in North Lawrence, where the last mowing of the season becomes a small ceremony — leaves off, edges cut sharp, the whole yard put away tidy before the light goes short. Through the green months it is the plain good work: mowing on a regular turn, trimming around posts and mailboxes, the debris carried clear. What stays with a person is the smell of cut grass at nine in the morning with the hills going gold behind the fence line. A yard kept that way holds its shape right up to the hard frost.
