Mobridge takes its name from the bridge that carries traffic across the Missouri River here, and this crew works the bluff-top streets on the town side of that crossing, where wind off the water can pack a driveway solid within an hour of a fresh snow. Building and grading through the warmer months means knowing the lay of every street before winter ever tests it, which corner catches drift first, which grade turns slick before the rest. Once the lake freezes and the wind picks up off the ice, that same knowledge turns into a plow route: work the exposed bluff streets early, before the wind undoes a clean pass. A driveway near the river crossing gets checked twice on a bad day, once at first light and again once the wind shifts. It's the kind of attention that comes from having built half these streets in the first place.
